Ales Stenar
€ 50,00 – € 110,00
Ale’s Stones, located in the hills above Kseberga, just east of Ystad, is one of Sweden’s most mysterious sites. Some say it is a funerary monument, while others claim it is an antique astronomical clock because the stones are arranged so that the sun sets in the northwestern corner in summer and rises in the opposite corner in winter.
The 59 stones are arranged to make a ship. They are 67 m in length and 19 m in width at their widest point. The monument is thought to date back to the early Iron Age (500-1,000-AD).
The photographs were taken in a summer morning and show the light glinting off the stones, giving them an authentic sense.
