Meetjesland
We decided as a family to spend a weekend at a farm. The farm is located about 25 kilometers from the Dutch beach but still in Belgium. The farm is called Bomloze Put and is spread out on 12 hectares of land. We received a warm welcome from lovely donkeys in the evening.
As we already were looking forward to the morning the night spend by. The weather broadcast looked good. With great wide views, it could be a lovely sunrise to capture on photo. So it was, the image I shot on my Leica was the start of an inspiring day.
The sweet donkeys I noticed in the evening were replaced by wonderful cows. They were not the usual cows but a very well-known kind in Belgium. It is called Belgian Blue, they are famous because of their tender meat. Seeing them enjoying their grass and getting to watch the sunrise together did bring peace and silence into the mind.
After the peaceful morning, we wanted to go to the beach at the Breskes in The Netherlands. With only 25 kilometers to travel it would not be a long time to spend in the car. The beach was windy and not too crowded.
We enjoyed our time near the North Sea. When I am near the sea I always love to eat some fresh fish. It brings a smile to my face when I can eat fresh fish for lunch and smell the sea. It feels full circle at that moment.
We went back to the farm after our visit to the Breskes. My wife and I decided to go for a little walk when we were back. We wanted to discover the local landscape. Because our hike is near the Belgian beach, the landscape is flat as a pancake. With very wide views in front of me, I was able to capture some more photos.
The horses you see in the images are farm-raised and very authentic. They used the horses when the tractor wasn’t developed yet in the early days. The horses are very strong and beautiful to look at. We got a warm welcome from them when we walked by.
As the nights fall earlier because we are already into autumn, we jumped into bed to have a good night’s sleep. It was an early morning as we were awaked by local farmers with big industrial machines. At 5.30 AM, they started to harvest the corn from the fields next to our little house. I took our golden retriever with me and went to watch this moment with him.
Impressed by this heavy machinery I was able to shoot this moment.
Being awake this early has also its advantages. It allowed me to capture another sunrise together with my dog. I witnessed the horses on the back door. The cows on the grass fields were replaced by the beautiful horses. My morning couldn’t be nicer. The horses came to cuddle and showed their love.
As the morning was still young, I couldn’t miss the sunrise coming up. Some of the last photos I took were some of the most inspiring of the weekend. Together with my dog I really took in the moment. The sunrise showed the beauty of Mother Earth and the power of the sun.
At lunch, we started to pack and it was time to drive home. Grateful and blessed for these moments we drove home. We had the chance to recharge our inner battery a bit. The peace and silence on the farm were incredible and the love from the animals still is in our hearts.
Thank you to the people of the Bodomloze Put for your kind words, service, and help. We enjoyed every moment and we hope to be back.
