Three-country point

The sun was out, the perfect time to ride with my Moto Guzzi and make some great images. I planned a 330-kilometer road trip from Belgium to The Netherlands and the German border. All three countries are coming together at one point. It is called the Three-country point.

My friend and I made our start at 9.30 in the morning. With only 6 degrees it didn’t feel warm but in autumn it’s normal for the time of the year. With some nice warm gloves, we started our journey direction Maastricht. On the road, the foggy weather was slowly replaced by beautiful sunshine. The sun did bring a smile to my face when she showed herself on the earth.

Before we could enter The Netherlands we needed to cross the river, the Maas. Normally we could cross the river by boat but in this case, there was a roadblock to connect the boat so we needed to drive around it and cross the river on bridge. The road we needed to drive on, was located next to the banks of the river. Some weeks ago this was still full of water because of the floods. Now nature was restored and it gave a beautiful landscape to ride through.

We entered The Netherlands when we crossed the bridge. The landscape changed in a hill country. On the road, some little castles showed up. There are many castles located in Valkenburg and I love to watch them. Valkenburg is well known for the legendary bicycle race The Amstel Gold and also I spend a lot of time on the tarmac with my bike (without any engine).

Because of my cycling past, I know the roads quite well. I always love to spend my time on the little country roads. Some images entering Valkenburg.

The last two pictures are made at the Three Country Point. It is the connection between Belgian, The Netherlands, and Germany. The picture on top of my blog is shot at this location. A burst of wonderful sunshine showed her power over the landscape. We reached this point after 200 kilometers but there were still 130 kilometers to ride before reaching home.

With an extra fuel stop, we made our way towards the Belgian Voer area. Small country roads with some very nice hairpin roads brought a smile to our faces. We crossed a roundabout and there was a little castle showing up in my left corner. We were located in the city of Eben and the castle was very inspiring. Here are some images I shot.

The castle was built to honor the soldiers killed in World War I. It is a symbol that reminds us to keep peace in the world. One clear message.

Around 7 in the evening we reached our home place. A fantastic ride with great weather and joy on two wheels. I could not ask for more.

Looking forward to my next chapter on my Guzzi!
