The sun on my ride

Eight months ago, I had my last cycling adventure. That adventure did bring me to Banneux and the city of Remouchamps. After my cycling adventure, I became hospitalized for one week. It would be the end of my cycling adventures. There is still a lot of love for two wheels in my heart. For this adventure, I wanted to take my motorbike to go back to the south of Belgium to visit that place again. I calculated a 410-kilometer motorbike ride direction Banneux and continue my ride towards the smallest city of Belgium Durbuy.

9.30 sharp I was ready to ride my Italian horse. I started my ride direction Diest and continue my ride towards Zelem and Geetbets. When passing the city of Zelem I noticed to sun giving some wonderful flair on the still-wet grass fields. I felt already the energy, it would be a great day to shoot great photos.

When I pass historical buildings and especially castles, it is very hard to not pull over. I like history and I want to know what happened there in the past. Some castles are very nicely maintained.

The next images I took in the city of Neuville show a great example. I was able to take some images from this private castle. It has been sold in 2017 to a new owner.

Neuville is located in the Condroz. The Condroz has nice curvy roads and is a wonderful place to ride with a motorbike. The landscape is very inspiring, I passed the city of Esneux which gave a wonderful over the river, the Ourthe. I was not far from my first point of destination, Banneux.

For some people, Banneux does ring a bell. Banneux is a pilgrimage place and well known for its spring water that many years ago has been realized by Mother Mary. Mother Mary has been apparitions at Banneux and did give messages to the people. This is the link to read some more: link

The sun gave me a nice reflection and helped me shoot wonderful photos.

After visiting Banneux I wanted to continue my road towards Aywaille. The city is famous for the legendary road cycling race Luik Bastenaken Luik. The cycling race is called a monument because of the nearly 300km distance and very hard hills to conquer. Some hills are 21% steep and one of these is called La Redoute. I did cycle it myself many times; why not pass it with my Guzzi and having a good flashback.

During the event, many people paint their cycling hero’s name on the road on the steep sections. The event has been organized for the first time in the year 1892. This is one of the reasons why this cycle race is called legendary!

With a good flashback in my mind no painful legs after the climb, I continued my road towards Durbuy. The city is well known for its authentic character and being visited a lot by many people all over the world. Durbuy is based next to the river, the Ourthe. I love the image I captured at the local butcher. It presents the atmosphere of the small cozy village.

With a 410-kilometer road trip on the menu, there is not too much time to spend at one location. After taking some photos and buying some local products I continue my trip direction the city of Namur.

Namur is a very big city and also has a very historical side. Namur is for me known for its Citadel monument. The Citadel is a fortress and located on the higher side of Namur. The location has been used for many years for the World Championship motocross and is now been used for the World Cup cyclocross. I have been blessed with the ability to capture photos from the last motocross event kept at this location. History has been writing with Stefan Everts crowned 10x world champion on this last event. It was my first year as a photographer at the world championships.

On the other side, the Citadel has also something personal to me. I have been very happily married to my soulmate and we spend our wedding night at the Hotel the Namur on this location. So wonderful memories to treasure.

The Citadel gave a wonderful panoramic over the city of Namur.

I jumped back on my Guzzi to hit the road home. A small 100km to ride with great views. I passed the city of Zelem again, and I needed to stop and capture the sun going down on the same location I shoot the morning sun. I was blessed and thankful for a great day. I did capture wonderful photos and had a blast on my Guzzi. I did discover new places and met new people. The end of a nice trip!
