My first Moto Guzzi trip.
It is not always easy to plan a big ride. With the corona situation still in the world and not having the possibility to stay abroad for a long time, it is not easy to organize a trip. Since my current health situation obstructs me having a vaccination, I don’t have the possibility to travel abroad in general. So let’s stay in our home country Belgium.
I received my Moto Guzzi V7 just seven days ago. From the moment I hopped on the bike, I felt at home. It was the perfect tool for me to have my freedom on two wheels. Having bought big cases to mount on the bike to have all my camping and camera gear on the road, I was more than ready for it!
The plan was to ride 220km and have a stop in the Ardennes. I would spend the night at a camping place around Waimes and ride 230km the next day. My road trip departed in Mol and would lead in the direction of Monschau. The trip would lead me to the beautiful green Eifel in Germany.
Thanks to the Calimoto app I was able to do my trip in all secundary roads. I didn’t want to ride any highway so i had the chance to discover the most of what our country has to offer. After 40km I discovered a nuns monastery in Kuringen, Hasselt. The famous place called Herkenrode had something authentic. Some images I took with my Leica M10 can be found below.
It is a beautiful place with unlimited kilometers of hiking trails to discover.
I didn’t want to stay too long as I knew there were some kilometers to ride to get to my destination in the Ardennes. After a fantastic ride in the scenery of Limburg, I was able to have a stop and eat my sandwiches. I could not resist capturing that view. I loved the silence of it.
I would continue my ride on the little roads. I love the quietness and the handling of my Italian Guzzi. Spending 60km on the tarmac did bring me to the brewery of Val Dieu. The brewery was located in a restored abbey. They still produce beers in this historical place. I was able to shoot some inspiring images.
Leading my V7 direction Eifel, Germany, I was able to take in the beautiful sightseeing. Having fantastic hairpin roads made the kid in me come alive. I missed these rides. Down below you can see some images I took in Germany.
The pictures of the cows represent the beautiful country scenery. I had the opportunity to witness a farmer’s wife bringing the cows to another place. She had a strong connection with them. I am happy to capture it on camera.
The plan was to continue my ride towards Botrange in Belgium, the official highest point of our country. I would spend the night at a camping place. However, searching for 5 different camps to stay there wasn’t that possibility anymore. With all campingsites fully booked, this situation forced me to ride the highway towards home.
In the end, I was more than happy about my ride. I did spend 470km on the roads and loved every second of it. Spending the night next to my soulmate also made my day! An ending to a fantastic journey with some great images. I’m looking forward to having some more to come, with hopefully a sleeping place next time. Below you can find the final images of Botrange.
I hope you like my images like I did my ride.
