With my legs in the marsh.
Strange weather has engulfed Belgium, so I needed to search through my archives for pictures to start a new photoblog. I simply didn’t have the time in the past to turn this pleasant walk into a blog story.
My wife and I went for a walk a few weeks ago, just before the end of 2022, and we wanted the wind to blow through our hairs. The Reuselse Moeren would be our meeting place.
Southern Brabant is home to the Reuselse Moeren. It’s a nature preserve, one of the few locations globally where you can get near nature! The government has made a shift in this field. They added a short circle around the nearby farmland, allowing you to walk a total distance of 7 kilometres or more. In our case, it would be more miles in our trekking trip.
What I noticed was that the ancient woodland had been cleared away. As a result, this location now had expansive vistas. However, because this region is well known for its swamps, the trekking paths would be extremely wet. As seen in the pictures above, there was a suggestion for footwear to wear. I didn’t think it was essential at the moment. But as we resumed our journey, we understood why the notice had been placed.
With a strong wind blowing, the trek began with magnificent views. Our little pal was savouring the cool air on his face.
I was carrying my Canon EOS 1DX. It is a tank that can be used in all weather situations, making it ideal for this task. A panoramic picture.
All kinds of mos can be found along the edge of the large open field. The path continues by passing through a small patch of forest, where you will encounter numerous mushrooms. Because the area is wet, the mushrooms can grow very quickly.
Some pathways are underwater, and walking through them was impossible. We attempted but sank up to our ankles in the water.
We had to carry our dog because the water was too deep. Some more images:
As we travel along the border between Belgium and the Netherlands, we stumble across an old smuggling route. It is now an old route used by bicycles and occasionally by cars. The images are shown above.
My wife loved her walk through the ferns and captured some beautiful photos with her Leica Q2. We have lived in this region for over 40 years and I have never visited this spot, which is a shame.
It was a lovely birdspot for photos with a wooden viewing location built in the woodland.
I arrived at our beginning spot after nearly 10 kilometres of hiking due to the need for a big detour due to flood conditions.
With wet feet and cold bodies, we agreed to halt at an old café and warm up next to a wood fire.
We could increase our body temperatures by drinking Karmeliet from the faucet and eating Belgian french fries.
After a long week, we enjoyed spending time in nature with our tiny canine. Being in the woods with each other slows time in this hectic existence.
It’s a detox for our family, and I enjoy seeing our dog
run in all directions and feel liberated.
What else do I desire…
Nothing at all.
Peace is within us; all we need to do is take the time to access it to flee this hectic world. It’s all there; we just need to make time for it and appreciate the grandeur that surrounds us.
Thank you
