The Sahara Desert is full of surprises.

Belgium looks like a desert after weeks of almost no rain. Because it is so dry, the grass and vegetation have died. My location is highly known for its fine white sand, which is utilized in making glass and other products. It appears to be desert in some places. My location is Lommel in Belgium.

The Lommel Sahara is a 193-hectare sand and dune environment in the Belgian municipality of Lommel, Limburg. There is a lake in the middle with coniferous trees all around. This scenery is part of the Bosland woodland region. The Lommelse Sahara is next to the Kempen Canal, accessible through a pedestrian bridge. The region is European protected as part of the Natura 2000 area ‘Valley area of the Kleine Nete including source areas, wetlands, and heaths.’

Lommel Sahara – 31 aug – Leica M10 – R lens

We went to the Sahara to take a walk in the evening and watch the sun setting in the heathers. The clouds created for beautiful landscape, and it was a pleasure to get out into the fields with my golden retriever and a wonderful wife. It was a thrill to see the sky turn into the evening, especially with the gorgeous heather in such vibrant hues. It always puts a grin on my face and makes me forget about my stressful life.

With my beloved Leica M10 and Leica 60 mm Macro R-lens (almost a decade old) in hand, I began photographing and documenting the surroundings.

Nature connection is essential in life. Life may be a whirlwind, yet connecting allows everything to calm down and creates questions in your mind. “Why do we live in such a frenzied manner?” is one of these ideas.

With the wonderful wildlife in their natural habitat, a getaway in nature may be so beautiful and calm. It is incredibly peaceful and brings joy to everyone’s heart.

So, if you want to spend some time in it, I hope Mother Earth and nature will present you with some amazing views, as they did for me, and bring tranquility and love into your heart and spirit.

Thank you
