As you may have noticed in my previous blog, I was still experimenting with many cameras to find the optimal setup for me to enjoy my photographic adventure.

Today I planned to extend my test into the Sahara’s deep sand. It is a natural park in the Belgian city of Lommel. Because of the recent heavy rain, the sand was not as loose as it is in the summer.

I saw that there was a lot of activity in the woods, as many sick trees had been removed. It’s a pity that so many trees have been taken down; it makes me silent and sad on the inside.
On the other hand, it was amazing to see the ferns’ vibrant green colors.

There is a lot of oxygen in the air, which makes trekking between the trees a pleasant experience. The scent of flowers draws me in and makes me thankful to be here.

I continue my journey through the natural park, where there is a big freshwater lake with dunes nearby. Water always makes me feel more at ease. It provides a nice tranquil connection, and I enjoy trekking near the water.

The heavily cloudy sky adds drama to the picture and brings the lovely countryside to life. I adore these moments.

I notice some little things growing along the river, and they aren’t simply flowers. Holding my breath allows me to hear frogs scream from the lake. A little frog attracted my eye in the silence. It was incredible to witness these little animals, which were barely the size a pink.
Flowers began opening up, and they were only 5mm in size… yet they were gorgeous.

The major purpose of these hikes was to put the cameras through their paces, comparing the Leica SL against the Leica M10. Below are two images were taken with the same lens. The photograph on the left was taken with a Leica SL camera.

My impression of the Leica SL camera is that it generates photographs with less depth and saturation than my M10. The photographs aren’t unpleasant, but I’m so used to working with M-systems that I’m having trouble transferring that feeling to my work with the Leica SL.

The park is beautiful, and just when I thought there were no wild creatures behind the restricted fencing, a wild roe deer exhibited its colors. It jumped into the tall grass and then vanished. It made me grin, and it proved that my mind had deceived me, as nature had already hugged me with wild frogs and other creatures.

After this trek, I felt ready to make my decision. I adore shooting with the Leica M-series, which is a detriment to my nostalgic photographic days. The Leica SL is difficult to master in that field of optics. There is no doubt that the Leica SL is a fantastic camera. However, the heavier and more probable functionalities provide me not the additional I am looking for.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to test this, and I’m pleased with the photographs it provided me as I return home.

I hope you like the photos!

Have a wonderful day.
