Hiking in home’s white gold.

My residence is in Belgium, as you may have seen from previous works. My hometown is famous for its white sand beaches and Sahara natural park. White sand, also known as quartz sand, is used to make glass and other items.

I reside near a sand-producing facility called Sibelco.

They developed a new hiking trail and a natural park near this sand factory a few months ago. They opened large hectares for the public where big water sections, some of which are more than 15 meters deep, have been developed. The massive sand output creates the waters. A sand and water combination, as well as some stunning heather, can be found at the new hiking park.

I tried the new hiking paths, and everything appeared to be fresh. Some old trails have been preserved, and you can still see the wonderful green forest colours in the foreground. Autumn was in full flower in the forest, with incredibly stunning mushrooms gleaming in the sunshine.

As you can see in the photographs, large tubes are crossing or adjacent to the walking pathways. These pipelines transport white sand to a plant located close to this natural region. A water channel runs beside the natural park. This also aided in the transportation of sand over water in the early 1900. Some photos of the canal in all its grandeur.

They built a sandhill in the centre of this natural region that you may climb to have an excellent view of the sand plant and the beautiful water parts and surroundings.

Sibelco designed a one-of-a-kind observation hill for this project in collaboration with Natuurpunt Netebollen, which will manage the open area.

It was now late in the evening, and the sun was setting slowly. I went on this excursion because I wanted to see the industrial site at night. I wanted to compare my feelings to the images I took with my camera. The Leica M10 was used to shoot all of the photos above.

Sibelco Plant – Dessel by Fuji

The ISO on my Leica M is not the most powerful, yet it produced an excellent shot. Nothing beats the panache that Leica creates in my opinion. When you see the photographs shot with the Fuji GFX50S II, you have to admit that the details are stunning. The Fuji camera is brilliant at ISO. I even used a 2-minute shutter speed to capture the shots.
Yes, exactly two minutes. I’ve never held a camera with such a long shutter speed, and with this wonderful Fuji option, we can also keep the ISO low while maintaining the same aperture.

Yes, because it has more than 50 megapixels and is a mid-format camera, the Fuji offers outstanding details in the shot. But there’s a catch for me…
I wish it had the spirit of a Leica. I believe I am simply addicted to the Leica since it provides me happiness and joy in my photographs.

The sole reason I take photographs!

Make your creation happen, and your creativity will offer you delight. Even if a 20-year-old camera or a 40-year-old lens provides you joy, it is simply the tool for you!

That’s what it’s all about!

Thank you
