Working with Leica lenses on the new Canon flagship.

Things may not always go as planned, but this blog is one tale that made me grin after a lengthy hunt for the greatest photography gear to complement my Leica cameras.

From the beginning of my career as a professional photographer, the Canon Eos 1 has been my workhorse. The camera had just 10 megapixels at the time, yet it was the most popular among professional photographers. I did, however, begin my second photography voyage with Leica. I adore the cameras and the old-school handling. The cameras, on the other hand, are susceptible. Having them with me on my motorcycle isn’t always ideal, and one camera is already at the Leica plant with troubles. So I needed a powerful camera to hit the road.

I bought a used Canon Eos 1dx Mark II a few weeks ago. It was the top of Canon’s DSLR lineup and a proper tank. And I do mean a tank! With a weight of 1.5 kg and a strength comparable to concrete, it is simply a camera that never fails in all situations.

As you can see from previous posts, the camera handling is still the same as it has been for many years, and it felt like coming home. I could continue taking images in harsh conditions, but there was one problem… I couldn’t use the Leica lenses I had at home. The glass quality is one of the most essential reasons Leica is so well-known.

I began looking for solutions to combine this predicament. I enlisted the assistance of the Canon staff. They assured me that if I bought the new Canon R3, I would be able to use my Leica lenses with Canon’s new digital flagship.

So I did… and look at the outcome!

The photographs above show the new Canon R3 camera with the Leica lens attached.
I used the following lenses: Leica – 24mm F2.8 / Leica 35mm F2.0 / Leica 90mm F2.4

One panorama shot using a Leica 24 mm lens is shown below.

Canon R3 with Leica 24mm

The output from the camera is just outstanding. The colors are vibrant, and there is no photoshop manipulation in the photographs. I’m still using total manual focus and capturing the moment like I did with my Leicas.
The photographs below were all taken using various Leica lenses and the new Canon R3!

The sun did give its vitality to the natural park, and because it is just the beginning of February, winter is still in the land. But today I was able to photograph the first daisy blossom in the grass fields. For these shots, I utilized the Canon 180mm lens. It’s an ancient lens, but I like the color. Another photo was taken near my grandfather’s old farm, and you have to agree, the sun was shining on the home.

In addition to my Leica lenses, I recently got the new Canon 50mm F1.2 lens. It is truly one of the greatest RF lenses they have ever produced! It is simply excellent in terms of color quality and depth.

It is just fantastic when you have a passion that you wish to convey through the image. I had other brands in my hands and they didn’t provide me with what I required.
Other photographers may not notice the difference, but I do, and if I want my passion to be associated with a pleasant fulfilled sensation, it must be 100%. I stayed focused on how I felt the material required to complete the job, and that is my search circle. One item remains on my Canon list, and it will be shown on this site one day.

Never let others distract you from your own focus! No one else is experiencing the same emotions that you are. Even an explanation is unnecessary!

Keep your eyes alert, concentrate, and make sure you know exactly what you want whenever you desire anything. With the eyes closed, no one can strike their target.
