Sometimes, you need to explore new avenues to truly understand the magic that photography can bring to your life. That’s precisely what I set out to do this time. During the pandemic, I had the fascinating opportunity to chat with the charismatic lead singer of the heavy metal band Evil Invaders. We made an exciting promise to collaborate on a photography project together. And that’s where our adventurous story begins.

After many years of separation, we finally reconnected, and Joe, the charismatic lead singer, extended a heartfelt invitation to join him for a live performance of the band nearby. He also asked if I would be interested in capturing the magic of the evening through my photography. This opportunity felt like an exhilarating challenge, one I was eager to embrace. I planned to use my Leica M camera, celebrated for its exquisite manual focus that imparts a truly unique quality to each shot. Alongside it, I brought my Canon, equipped with a stunning 50mm f/1.2 lens, perfect for illuminating the dimmest of settings. As I arrived at 10 in the evening, a rush of anticipation coursed through me. Though I felt ready, I couldn’t shake the uncertainty of what the night might unfold.

As I approached the entrance of the Rock festival, Joe greeted me with a warm smile that instantly made me feel at home. He led me to his lodge, where I met the other band members—a fantastic group of individuals, all radiating camaraderie and excitement as they geared up for their performance. Joe graciously took the time to show me around the stage, offering his assistance whenever I needed it. Before diving into preparations, I was eager to catch another band in action. After conducting extensive testing, the band eagerly prepared, transforming the podium into a vibrant hub of energy as they set up their gear for soundcheck. The atmosphere crackled with anticipation, a palpable sense of readiness that felt ready to ignite.

 

And then it happened—GO time! We were primed and ready to dive into the exhilarating atmosphere of the rock festival. As the first electrifying riff echoed through the air, Evil Invaders unleashed their raw energy, igniting the crowd. The moment Joe stepped up to the mic and shared the first lyrics, the audience erupted in a frenzy of excitement. Here are some captivating images from the unforgettable event.

Capturing this energy through my lens was no easy feat. Working exclusively in manual mode, I grappled with ever-shifting lighting, the dynamic movements of the group, and the constraints of limited space. It demanded my undivided attention to frame each shot perfectly. My passionate goal was to encapsulate the emotions and spirit of the event, and I hope you can truly feel that resonance in every image!

One particular shot that holds a special place in my heart was taken after the show. Here, you see the band reveling in the aftermath of their performance; having given their all on stage, they now unwind with well-deserved beers, savoring the joy of the moment.

 

When the lights dimmed and the DJ stepped in to keep the energy alive, it was the perfect moment to reflect on the show. I was absolutely captivated! Watching the performance evolve throughout the night, with each image capturing the essence of the experience—including those serene moments of cool-down—was truly enchanting.

I relished every second, and it left me yearning for more.
