I just wanted to get away from it all. The days were busy and tiring, and I felt empty. I was going through the motions without any meaning or purpose. My body felt drained, and my mind felt too full. I needed to reconnect with something real, something quiet, something that didn’t expect anything from me.

So I went to Postel.

I don’t usually follow the marked trails. Instead, I walk straight into the woods and fields — into the natural parts of the world where everything feels pure, raw, and honest.

My backpack was full of Hasselblad lenses, film, and gear. The weight pulled at my shoulders, but strangely, it wasn’t the equipment that felt heavy. I did. Still, I kept going. Sometimes you have to walk long enough for the noise inside you to slowly fade.

A Resting Colony

I hadn’t gone far when I saw them: a large group of ducks resting in the open grasslands. Dozens of them, calm and quiet, a living tapestry of feathers in the soft afternoon light.

I stopped immediately — not out of fear, but out of respect for their peace.

Entering Slowly, With Intention

I moved slowly and deliberately, careful not to disturb them.
Nature doesn’t just react to movement; it reacts to energy. I knew that if I carried too much tension, they would sense it instantly.

So I softened my steps.
Softened my breath.
Softened my presence.

I entered the fields gently, letting the quiet of Postel guide me forward.

A Clear Sign

When I finally lifted my camera and began to take photos, something interesting happened: half of the ducks suddenly lifted into the air, a wave of wings rising at once. Not all of them — just some. And that told me everything.

I wasn’t grounded enough yet.
Not fully in harmony with the land.
Somewhere in between — not stressed, but not truly settled either.

The ducks that stayed behind watched me carefully. They weren’t afraid, but they were curious. They were waiting to understand who I was in that moment.

So I stopped.

I let the silence take over.
I slowed my breathing.
I let the open fields of Postel steady me from the inside out.

I knew that if I could calm myself, everything around me would start to calm too. Nature always responds when it feels safe.

Getting Back in Balance

As my mind calmed, the energy around me softened as well. The resting ducks began to relax again, and slowly, one by one, the others returned. Suddenly the entire grass field was full again, peacefully scattered across the meadow. Seeing them settle back made me genuinely happy — a quiet affirmation that I had finally synced with the landscape rather than disturbing it.

Only then did I continue photographing. Not just capturing images, but experiencing the moment — connecting with the land, the birds, and the slowly fading day.

The Glory of Untouched Nature

Off the trails, Postel reveals its raw beauty. Light filters gently through branches. Grass sways softly in the wind. Silence becomes something tangible. Even exhausted from the week, nature offered me steadiness — a reminder that peace isn’t found by running away, but by slowing down enough to notice what’s already here.

A Peaceful Ending

As the sun sank lower, the light softened across the fields, and everything felt still. The ducks were calm, the meadow quiet, and I felt a deep sense of gratitude. My shoulders ached from the weight of my gear, my legs were tired, but inside I was lighter, grounded, and fully present.

Nature had reminded me of something essential: that even in the busiest, most overwhelming days, there is always a place — a moment — where peace can be found. Sometimes it’s a quiet field, a colony of ducks, the gentle sway of grass, or the soft glow of the sunset.

Walking back slowly, I carried that stillness with me. A reminder that balance isn’t somewhere you travel to — it’s something you reconnect with, one mindful step at a time.
